Kids Ø

3 to 4 years old

Description to confirm with Professor João.

Kids I

4 to 6 years old

Our class for young children. We prioritise respecting the child's need to play freely, without forcing specific activities. We contribute to motor development in a loving, playful way, using ball exercises, animal movements, skill and balance work.

Kids II

7 to 9 years old

At this stage we begin teaching discipline, hierarchy and respect while still allowing space for free play. Classes are split into opening bow, warm-up, technical exercises, technique learning, optional sparring, and the closing bow.

Kids III

10 to 13 years old

Focus on developing the technical skills of Jiu-Jitsu and self-defence training. Practice develops the self-confidence that makes us more tolerant, peaceful and resilient.

Adults and Teens

From 13 years old

From the surgeon to the student, whatever your profession, Jiu-Jitsu can be practised safely and effectively. Classes are group-based but instruction is individual. Private lessons and video analysis available.

Frequently asked questions.

What is Jiu-Jitsu?

Jiu-Jitsu is a complete self-defence martial art originally from Japan, made popular worldwide by the Gracie family. A major benefit is gaining confidence, and with confidence comes tolerance and peacefulness, helping you become a better version of yourself.

Can I try out a class for free?

Yes. Get in touch with us to arrange your free trial class.

What clothes should I wear? Should I bring anything?

Comfortable, loose fitting clothes are fine. Bring a bottle of water and a towel.

I'm over 40. Is that a problem for starting Jiu-Jitsu?

Not at all. Many of our students are in this age range. Classes are group-based but we attend to each student individually.

I'm a woman. Which classes are best for me?

Any of the adult classes are perfect. We also have specific women's self-defence classes.

I have an injury, illness or disability. Can I still train?

Our classes are fully inclusive and every student works at their own pace. Let Professor João know your specific needs beforehand and he will adapt the class.

What is No-Gi?

No-Gi means Jiu-Jitsu without the kimono. Instead of the Gi, students wear rashguards and shorts, using different grips and approaches.

Are there any rules I need to follow?

Yes. Maintain personal hygiene, respect the hierarchy and each other, never step on the mats with shoes or without permission, and leave your ego at the door. Come with a good attitude.
